With the establishment of ‘Saorstat Eireann’ (Irish Free State) in 1922, existing Irish
post boxes (many with royal monograms) were repainted from red to green and had
new doors installed with a new letters ‘S.E’ on them. Still used to this day, they are
a connection to Ireland’s past.
